New LAGEN Project “Research Consortium Consulting” advises Universities in Lower Saxony
To sustainably strengthen the chances of success for universities in Lower Saxony in securing national and international funding, the groundbreaking project “Research Consortium Consulting” (FoVerBe) was launched in early March 2026. The project is funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) for a term of five years and is established as a collaborative project between the State Working Group of Institutions for Women’s and Gender Studies in Lower Saxony (LAGEN) and the Lower Saxony Scientific Commission (WKN).

Strengthening Democracy in Europe: Erasmus+ Project EuroConnect
Democracies in Europe are facing profound challenges. Against this backdrop, how can we ensure that young people have the skills needed to actively participate in democratic processes? The Erasmus+ project EuroConnect – Strengthening Civic Competences and EU Democratic Life, in which the Institute of Political Science at the University of Göttingen has been participating since November 2025, addresses this very question.

Good Practice Teaching Examples – Summer Semester 2025
We are delighted to once again honor outstanding teachers from the Faculty of Social Sciences! Under the motto “Good Practice Teaching Examples at the Faculty of Social Sciences,” the Study Commission regularly highlights courses that have received particularly positive evaluations in teaching assessments — with the aim of highlighting good teaching and promoting interdisciplinary exchange. Mission statement for teaching and learning
The University of Göttingen has summarized its understanding of good teaching in a mission statement for teaching and learning. This mission statement was developed in a broad, university-wide, participatory process involving teachers, students, and members of the academic administration.

Research funding
The faculty subsidizes applications for funding for doctoral studies and the post-doctoral phase, as well as applications for funding for internationalization. The Research Commission decides on the applications received.

Dissertation defense and habilitation dates
Approximately 10 students complete their doctorates at the Faculty of Social Sciences each year, and 1-2 people obtain their habilitation. The dates of public university disputations and lectures can be found here.
